hair highlights: the round up

I’m celebrating the launch of the Loxx with a round up of our first four ‘Hair Highlights’s. We’re taking a look back at our favourite parts of each interview below and giving you the best bits…

Maddie Grace Jepson

On her hair…

“My natural hair is also completely different two years on. I’ve invested in great hair products and taken the time to protect it. I think extensions have actually helped my natural hair to heal, it's so much healthier. The incredible thing about the great lengths extensions is that they have a wave to them like my natural hair, meaning I can leave it to dry naturally. I don’t want to have to put heat on my hair every day or be on holiday stuck in the bathroom sweating my tits off because I have to dry it.

On hair products…

Overall, I’ve actively made a change to use ‘good products’. I like to use sulphate, paraben, and silicone free shampoo and my hair has thrived since I made that change. It was during lockdown that I did that curly girl method and realised how much silicone was coating and effecting my curls, so I’ve noticed a huge difference on my natural hair since I cut that out. I think we all have to be wary of ingredients in our haircare and just make sure what we are using is right for us.

I think a lot of people don’t understand their hair texture, and they don’t understand their hair type and how to properly work with it; I certainly didn’t for a long time. People need to talk about how to work with your hair or the simple little things that can give you amazing results. Im still definitely on my hair journey, but being able to chat with other people about theirs and learn from them is how I’ve got to this point so far.

On her hair…

I like how versatile I can be with my hair and as Im a stylist, so often my looks completely change. They can be girly or grungy and with that I can also change my hair to match my personality that day. Hair is an added accessory to any look and with that you can do as much or as little as you like with it. Its taken me a long time to get to a point of loving and working with my hair, like anyone I always wanted what I didn’t have and for so long.

On her red hair…

Hair is so important to me, its such a big part of my personality. I look completely different with blonde hair, I look completely different with black hair. When I went back to the red my hair just felt the most me, I really think so much of my personal identity is my hair. Consistent condition is something I try to maintain with all of my hair product choices. I want to make it as easy as possible when Im doing my own hair and with the right products I don’t need to try to hard or fight against my hair, I can leave it and it looks alright.

On her hair…

I was modelling for my hair and not for me. It was always curly and had to be perfect. I got sick of my hair and because of that reason and started to blow dry it. I guess I feel like a child with my curly hair; it’s like I go from 26 to 12. When I was modelling, I felt like the curls had more of an identity than me and I was booked purely because of my curly hair. The curls went hand in hand with my race, and I’d never thought about that before modelling.

On what her hair means to her…

I think my hair used to be more important to me than it is now. I used to be that ‘I can’t function if my hair doesn’t look perfect or feel right’ kind of girl, but then I cut it off into a pixie crop. When I took the plunge and chopped it off, I had to find my confidence without always relying on my hair, which made me more experimental.

Emily Rose Lansley

On why her hair is important…

Hair is my security blanket and having volume is my thing. I can throw something on clothes wise and not think twice about it if my hair is done. Looking back I really have always loved hair and been into looking after it. To me nothing is better then long, healthy hair. I also think getting older makes you realise you really need to look after it as no matter what, you have to wear your hair everyday.

On her hair icons…

Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley - I love her hair. The colour, the thickness, she has such a good head of hair. The style always looks so shiny and beautiful - I really think she must be one of the most referenced people for hair to exist. Simone Ashley has amazing hair too. Whatever style she has it looks great and whatever she does suits her. She has beautiful natural curls and she can do a sleek long look, everything looks incredible.
